The Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) XII noted an increase of 201% in Dengue cases when compared last year.
Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) reported 5 deaths and 3,211 infected persons for this year alone.
Most of the cases have been reported from provinces like Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City. Residents in these regions were urged to be cautious and to follow established anti-dengue protocols.
“We now have the enhanced 4S strategy. It is enhanced because we are adding three more diseases particularly malaria, chikungunya and zika which are vector borne diseases from mosquitoes,” said Dr. Imelda Quiñones, a Medical Officer with the DOH.
What is the 4s Strategy?
The 4S strategy consists of: Search and destroy breeding places, Secure self-protection, Seek early consultation, and Saying No to indiscriminate fogging.
This program has been a central component in the DOH strategy for preventive control of Dengue in the region.Read More
